Europe and the Bay Area: Investing in Each Other

Registration is closed for this event

The Bay Area Council Economic Institute is a partnership of business with labor, government, higher education and philanthropy, that works to support the economic vitality and competitiveness of the Bay Area and California economies. The Association of Bay Area Governments is a founder and key institutional partner. The Economic Institute also supports and manages the Bay Area Science and Innovation Consortium (BASIC), a partnership of Northern California's leading scientific research laboratories and companies. Through its economic and policy research and its many partnerships, the Economic Institute addresses major issues impacting the competitiveness, economic development and quality of life of the region and the state, including infrastructure, trade and globalization, science, innovation, and governance. A public-private Board of Trustees oversees the development of its products and initiatives.

European economic connections with the Bay Area are deep and continue to generate shared value. While ties with expanding economies in Asia have been rapidly growing and celebrated over the last few decades, it is easy to lose sight of the region’s more established, longer-term partners and the evolving character of these partnerships.
  • What role do the collaborative relationships with Europe play in the Bay Area’s innovation economy?
  • How do Europeans enrich the local talent pool? Do patterns differ from those of talent from other parts of the world?
  • In what ways are the Bay Area and Europe investing in each other?
  • What burning policy issues have potential of strengthening or weakening the ties between the Bay Area and Europe?
The Bay Area Council Economic Institute has completed an in-depth examination of the Bay Area’s deepening and evolving economic ties with Europe.

The event will also celebrate the launch of the ASSOCIATION OF AMERICAN EUROPEAN CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE AND BUSINESS ASSOCIATIONS.
